Access Statement

The Dales Guest House aims to provide a pleasurable visit for less able guests within the confines of a three-storey Victorian property. If the following leaves any question that you may have unanswered please contact us by phone, letter or e-mail.

Planning your arrival

Road parking is unrestricted outside the guest house, although collectively local residents have agreed to restrict parking to the opposite side of the road.

There is a bus stop 40 metres away in Laundry Lane just before its junction with Main Street. If you would like assistance from this point please let us know in advance. None of the buses serving Ingleton are of low floor construction.

There is a local taxi service based at Bentham that has accessible vehicles. Similar services operate from Settle and both would require advance booking. Accessible taxis are readily available in Lancaster and Skipton.

At the entrance to the property is a 10 cm step down to a level path across the patio and a similar step up at the threshold. The outer door (93cm wide) is fastened back open during the day and evening. All guests are provided with a key to the inner door 80cm wide).

The guest house layout

The residents' lounge and small dining room are on the ground floor.

All bedrooms are on the upper two floors reached via 15 steps 20 cm high and a tread of 25 cm to the first floor and a slightly steeper flight to the second floor.. None of the bedrooms are large enough to accommodate a wheelchair. All showers are in cubicles with a step up of between and 20 and 25 cm. The doorways to all rooms are 73 cm wide and the doors to shower rooms are 59 cm wide. The only WCs are in guest bedrooms.

The entrance hall, stairways and landings are permanently lit by the emergency lighting system.

Facilities and services

There is a small patio area at the front with seating.

The lounge has a settee, armchairs, a recliner and straight back chairs.

The dining room off the lounge has tables for one/two persons each. Guests with mobility difficulties can be seated by the window in the lounge.

With advance notice we are able to cater for most dietary needs.

The television, DVD and video player in the lounge has a loop to assist hearing aid users. Most DVDs are subtitled. Most TV programmes on Freeview (lounge only) are subtitled.

We offer guided walks and map reading courses. Both need to be pre-booked and a fee is payable.

We can provide all information in large print.
